Carl Edwin Frey, 86, of Sioux Falls, passed away Saturday, September 3, 2016 surrounded by his family.

A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 6, 2016, at East Side Lutheran Church, 1300 East 10th Street, Sioux Falls, with the Rev. Dr. Olaf Roynesdal officiating. Following the service, the family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall.

Carl Edwin Frey, son of Fred and Olga (Steffen) Frey, was born September 4, 1929 in Burke, SD. He grew up in Burke and attended Burke School. Carl entered the Army on September 1, 1951 and served in the Korean Conflict as a PFC officer. He was honorably discharged from the Army on September 1, 1953.

Carl was united in marriage with Mae Brokke in Mitchell, SD.

Following his military service, Carl drove cement truck for Eagles Sand and Gravel before he began his long career as an assistant superintendent at Egger Steel Company. He retired from Egger Steel Company in 1994.

Carl was a member of East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls. He was also a member of the VFW and American Legion. Carl was a past member of the Moose Lodge.

Grateful for having shared his life are his three children, Deb (Gary) Taylor of Worthing, SD, Diane (Mike) Hall of Sioux Falls, and Susan Frey of Sioux Falls; nine grandchildren, 9 great-grandchildren and 5 great-great-grandchildren; sisters, Velma Kellog of Sioux Falls, Esther Schladweiler of Sioux Falls, and Marie (Gary) Cane of Port Orchard, Washington.

Carl was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Mae Frey; daughter, Mary Frampton; brothers, Otto Frey, Ernie Frey, and Lyle Frey; and sister, Lila Johnson.

Memorials may be directed to the National Parkinson's Foundation or to East Side Lutheran Church, Sioux Falls.
