Sioux Falls, SD ~ Catherine Ann "Kay" Kirkvold, age 68, died on May 3, 2016 at her home in Sioux Falls, SD. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Monday, May 9, 2016 at George Boom Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Sioux Falls, SD. The family will greet friends for visitation on Sunday evening at the funeral home from 6:00 PM to 8:00PM and then again on Monday one hour prior to the service.

Kay was born on March 5, 1948 in Omaha, Nebraska to Margaret "Peggy" King. As a child her mother made her home in Sioux Falls, SD, and was united in marriage with Kenneth Edward Hoffman. Ken adopted Kay and with her mother raised Kay in Sioux Falls where she graduated from Washington High School.

Following high school Kay devoted her time, love and attention to her four children; she later began working as a chef, at the Northlander Restaurant in Sioux Falls. Her skills in the kitchen led her to compete in many culinary events. She began working for the US Postal Service as a Rural Carrier in 1982 later becoming President of the Rural Letter Carriers Association until her retirement in October 2014.

Kay had two previous marriages, first to John Kottman, and then, Herman "Doug" Kirkvold. Kay has spent the last 22-years with Sean Seymour of Sioux Falls.

Kay enjoyed reading, writing poetry, crossword puzzles, painting, singing, dancing and playing the piano. Above all she loved spending time with her family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her four children: Todd Hoffman, Julie Thompson, Rebecca (Robert Stefani) Skinner and Michael (Shannon) Kottman; significant other, Sean Seymour; Son-In-Law Tim Thompson; Two brothers, Ed (Kay) Hoffman and Scott (Lynda) Hoffman; 15 Grandchildren, 18 Great-Grandchildren, 5 nephews; family friend, Brian Beck; and a host of other relatives and friends.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Margaret "Peggy" Larrington and Kenneth Hoffman; son, Christopher John Kottman; great-granddaughter, Nevaeh Grace Hoffman and biological father George "Bud" Armstrong.
