Chester Knutson, 93, of Humboldt, SD (formerly of Huron, SD) died Monday, February 6, 2017 at Avera McKennan Hospital in Sioux Falls.

Chester G. Knutson was born April 28, 1923 near Lake Wilson, MN. He grew up in the Lake Wilson area where he received his education. Chester attended one year at a Bible College in Roseville, MN.

On January 16, 1952, he was united in marriage with Lois Groeneweg at the Skandia Evangelical Free Church in Balaton, MN. Following their marriage, Chester worked for one year on a farm near Kasson, MN. The couple returned to Balaton where Chester farmed his entire career. After retiring from farming, he and Lois continued living on the farm until moving to Huron, SD in 2008. Due to declining health, they moved to their daughter's home in Humboldt, SD in 2015.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife, Lois Knutson, of Humboldt, SD; his daughter, Bonnie (Chuck) Jacobsen of Humboldt, SD; his son, Bruce (Nikki) Knutson of Huron, SD; 3 grandchildren, Danny Jacobsen and his fiancé, Erica Reishus, Krista Jacobsen and Olivia Knutson; his sisters-in-law, Grace Knutson of St. James, MN, Ruth Abigt of Cedar Rapids, IA, Linda Groeneweg of Forest Lake, MN and Jordy Groeneweg.

Chester was preceded in death by his parents; two children, Daniel and Debbie who died as infants; his brothers, Albert and wife Darlene Knutson; Russell, Knutson; his sisters and their spouses, Myrtle and Vince Staples, Evelyn and Clarence Larson and Bea and Elmer Sevold. Preceding him in death on Lois' side of the family are Isaac Groeneweg, Chet and Ann Groeneweg, Francis and Esther Groeneweg, Bob Groeneweg; and brothers-in-law, Fred Abigt and Richard Groeneweg.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Saturday at the Skandia Evangelical Free Church near Balaton, MN. Interment will be in the Lakeside Cemetery, Balaton, MN. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00-7:00 pm with prayers and a time of sharing at 6:00 pm Friday at the Skandia Evangelical Free Church near Balaton.
