Christopher Krueger Obituary
Christopher Krueger

Christopher Cory Krueger, 46, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 26, 2016 at MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, TX after two courageous battles with Leukemia.

Chris was born November 29, 1969 in Sioux Falls, SD to Tom and Jane Krueger. Growing up he was active in sports, and enjoyed spending a great deal of time on the family farm with his grandparents. Chris had a curious mind as a child and was always getting into mischief. He had fun tinkering with equipment and explosives at the family business. To this day, those who visit the building can see the mark on the ceiling left by one of his many experiments. Chris had a venturesome spirit and enjoyed life to the fullest. He had a need for speed and drove an eye-catching yellow Porsche in high school. He often set racing records driving to and from school each day. Chris graduated from O'Gorman High School in 1988 and attended the University of Minnesota. He made life-long friends wherever he went. While in college, Chris joined a biking club and became passionate about cycling. He traveled throughout the United States and France where he raced criterion and road races. Some of his fondest memories were cycling with his teammates and spending time at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO.

After college, Chris joined the family business and worked as an estimator and project manager for Krueger Excavating. He traveled the country and enjoyed bidding projects, leading crews, and solving problems. His can-do attitude and intelligence were assets to the family business.

Chris married the love of his life, Cathy Johnson on May 29, 1998. His sense of adventure led them to travel the United States and Europe. Together they spent years dreaming, planning, and building their home in the country. He loved trees and open space. Some of his favorite times were completing projects around the house and yard and time spent woodworking in his workshop. Chris and Cathy were inseparable, enjoying every day tasks from grocery shopping to date nights with friends.

Their beautiful daughter, Hadley Layne joined the family in January, 2002. When Hadley entered the room Chris' eyes lit up. She was Chris' pride and joy and the bond between the two was beautiful. Between the inside jokes, identical personality and sense of humor, to say she is her father's daughter is an understatement.

Those who knew Chris loved his adventurous spirit, philosophical ideology, and intellectual ability. He was a good friend and respected by many. Chris will be greatly missed. We believe he will ride many miles on his bike with his beloved dog Guinness chasing him until we meet again.

Grateful for sharing his life are his wife, Cathy and daughter, Hadley, his sister, Tenley (Jared Spritzer) and their children, Pruitt Riley, Carson Reeve, and Barrett Michael of Houston, TX, his grandmothers, Deloris Nothdurft of Sioux Falls, SD and Dolores Krueger of Sioux Falls, SD and many aunts, uncles and cousins. Chris was preceded in death by his mother and father, Jane and Tom Krueger and his grandfathers, Fred Nothdurft and George Krueger.

Visitation with family will occur at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S Main Avenue from noon until 7pm on Monday, August 1st. A celebration of his life will be held at Holy Spirit Church, 4309 S Bahnson Ave at 10am on Tuesday, August 2nd with interment at Woodlawn Cemetery. A gathering of friends and family will follow at CJ Callaway's. Memorial gifts will be directed towards leukemia research.
