Clarice "Cy" Sorenson Binger, 88, passed away Saturday, March 4, 2017, at Prairie Creek Retirement Home in Sioux Falls. She was the daughter of Otto and Hilma (Julson) Sorenson of Garretson, SD, and was born at the Moe Hospital in Sioux Falls on August 1, 1928.

She was graduated from Rock Rapids, IA high school, attended Augustana College, and was employed at the Shriver-Johnson Department Store before her marriage to Robert Binger at the North Split Rock Lutheran Church, Brandon, SD, on June 6, 1950. They moved to Duxbury, MA while Mr. Binger attended graduate school at Boston University.

Upon returning to Sioux Falls, she was a housewife and mother for the major part of her married life except for three years at Jefferson Elementary and eight years at the Lincoln High School music department. She was always involved in music; singing solos at five years of age, and later playing the piano and bass clarinet. She was a member of the Our Savior's Lutheran Church Senior Choir and taught Sunday School there.

Cy was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, served as its financial secretary for many years, and was chosen as Legionnette of the Year for 1987. She was a member of the Auxiliary Chorus which won numerous state and national championships. She was also a charter member of the Auxiliary Sextette, "The Dakota Mrs.," which won many national championships. For many years, Cy was the "flag secretary" for the Post #15 Singing Legionnaires.

Cy was very adept at Norwegian Hardanger stitchery and taught it for several years. She and her husband visited Europe together four times. On one of her visits to Norway she attended a wedding and a confirmation, and met a third cousin. She and her husband joined a World War Il Remembrance Tour, visiting throughout Europe.

She was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Paul and his wife Lois; sisters, Deloris and her husband, Jasper Elgethun, and Mildred and her husband, Loyd Skalland; two brothers-in-law, Homer Ulrickson and Arnold Gilbertson; three nephews, Jerome Skalland, Rodney Sorenson, and Terry Elgethun; and several other relatives by marriage.

Survivors include her husband; her children, Steven (Sue), Michael, Rebecca (Mike) Covert, and Thomas (Nicole); seven grandchildren, Eric Binger, Elissa (Chris)Martin, Quentin and Caroline Covert, Ethan, Oliver and Summer Binger; two great-grandchildren, Nolan and Cadence Martin; one sister, Vera Gilbertson of Canton, SD; and many nieces and nephews.

Funeral Services will be held 11:00am Thursday, March 9, 2017, at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls. Visitation will begin at 2:00 with the family present from 5:00 to 7:00 Wednesday evening at Miller Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street.
