Donald L. Nix Obituary
Donald L. Nix

Chancellor - Donald Leon Nix, 72, died peacefully from non-alcoholic liver disease on August 27, 2016, in his home outside of Sioux Falls, S.D. He was surrounded by his family.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7:30 PM, Thursday, September 1, 2016 at George Boom Funeral Home on 3408 E 10th Street, Sioux Falls. Family will be present from 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM Thursday at the funeral home. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Don's life.

Don was born on October 13, 1943 in Spruce Pine, Ala. to Leon and Adele Nix. He spent his childhood years, and attended grade school, in Chamblee, GA. and graduated high school in 1961 from Mt. Barry School for Boys in Rome, Ga.

Immediately after High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and was based in New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Germany. During this time, he was schooled in electronics and used his training to start his career in his civilian life.

He married Barb on Leap Day - February 29, 1976 and later that year they moved to Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1977, in their two car garage, Don and Barb started Pivot Power Inc., a small business that custom packages irrigation power units and generator sets. Over 40 years Pivot Power became an ever-growing, freestanding plant with units sold around the world, employing up to 25 people he treated as family.

Throughout his life, Don loved car racing and sports cars - faithfully watching NASCAR and Formula 1 racing, and acquiring countless new and classic cars. He shared his love of cars with his daughters, making sure they all knew how to drive a manual shift and even throwing them on the autocross track.

He was a loving and caring man who never hesitated to take in his daughter's friends and treat them as if they were his own children.

The last two years of his life, he built his dream home in the countryside of South Dakota and gave away his first born at her wedding. Two great and proud accomplishments for Don.

Don is survived by his wife, Barb Nix and his daughters, Amanda (Michael) Visser of Austin, Texas, Anna Nix (Sanjay Kumar) of Sydney, Australia, and Alyssa Nix of Sioux Falls, S.D.

He is preceded in death by his father, Leon Nix and mother, Adele Nix of Phil Campbell, Ala.
