Dorothy Ann (Erickson) Harum

A resident of Palm Desert, California, Dorothy Ann (Erickson) Harum, age 89, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2016 at Eisenhower Medical Center in Rancho Mirage, surrounded by her loving family. Dorothy was born in Hurley, South Dakota, on September 20, 1926 to John and Ulda Erickson. Dorothy received a bachelor's degree in Biology from Augustana University in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, where she was also homecoming queen. Upon graduation, Dorothy married a fellow Augustana student, Robert Harum, a South Dakota native as well.

Although Dorothy had aspirations of being an actress and had been in numerous college and summer stock productions, motherhood became her top priority. Dorothy had three children: Mary, Michael and David.

In 1959, when Robert became Managing Director of International Harvester Denmark, he and Dorothy moved their young family to Europe where they lived for eleven years in Copenhagen, Denmark, Norrköping, Sweden and Paris, France. She learned to speak the languages of all three countries.

Dorothy was a homemaker in the proudest sense, but she also loved to play golf and scored two holes in one during her golfing years.

Dorothy is survived by her husband, Robert, and her children, Mary and David. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Edwin, Clarence, Norm, Bob and John, and by her son, Michael. She was a long time member of Hope Lutheran Church in Palm Desert.

Dorothy was an extraordinarily kind and beautiful woman and will be missed and cherished by her family and friends forever.

I wish to extend my sincere condolences on hearing of Dorothy Ann's death. We attended high school in Parker, SD together and became friends though we hadn't communicated lately. Dorothy was a lovely young person, and am sure that continued for her lovely long life.
