Dorsie Jensen Obituary
Dorsie Jensen

Dorsie Lou (Peoples) Jensen of Wakonda, SD died Tuesday, February 28, 2017 at Bethesda Care Center in Beresford, SD. She was 87. Dorsie was born on April 2, 1929 in Seminole, OK. She lived in Oklahoma and Arkansas until the family moved to California when she was ten.

Growing up as a city girl in California, Dorsie always dreamt of marrying a farm boy. God answered her prayer and she met a farm boy from South Dakota while he was serving in the Navy in California. Dorsie married Ray Jensen in 1953. They moved back to South Dakota in 1957 after Ray completed his military service.

Dorsie greatly missed her family in California and her southern roots, but South Dakota became her home. On the farm in South Dakota, Dorsie regularly hosted guests and was known for being able to put together a wonderful meal for a group of workers, friends or family in a matter of minutes.

Dorsie deeply loved and cared for Ray, her children and their spouses, her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She showed her family what it looks like to love and trust God in good times and in very hard times. Most of all, she knew how to pray. Those prayers have already borne much fruit, but the full impact is yet to be revealed in eternity.

Thankful for having shared her life are her children, Connie (Percy) Tjeerdsma of Springfield, SD, Gayle (Dave) Strand of Sioux Falls, SD and Steve (Sue) Jensen of Dakota Dunes, SD, 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren. She joins in heaven her husband, parents, 2 sisters, a great-grandchild and many other family and friends who trusted their lives to Christ.

The funeral service will be on Saturday, March 4 at 10 AM with visitation one hour prior at the Brooklyn Evangelical Free Church in rural Beresford, with the burial immediately after in the church cemetery. Hansen Funeral Home of Vermillion is handling the arrangements.
