Ethel Ackerman, 98, of Montrose, SD, died peacefully on Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Good Samaritan Center in Canistota, SD.

Memorial service will be 2:00 pm Monday, August 29, at Miller Funeral Home-Hartford Chapel, 600 S. Western Ave., Hartford, SD with the family present to greet friends one hour prior to service.

Ethel Lucille Main, daughter of Roy and Winnie (Morgan) Main, was born October 27, 1917 in Keldron, SD. She grew up in that area, graduating from Morristown High School in 1934. She attended Nettleton College of Business for Bookkeeping.

Ethel was united in marriage with Francis Ackerman on December 11, 1937 in Sioux Falls, SD. They lived in Sioux Falls until moving to Montrose, SD area where they lived for many years. Her husband, Francis died in 1969.

She worked as a bookkeeper for Central Farmers Co-op in Montrose, SD for nearly 30 years, retiring in 1982. Ethel was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary.

Ethel loved life and family was so important to her. She liked to read, do crossword puzzles, cross-stitch, and had made quilts for many family and friends.

Grateful for having shared her life are her son, Roger Ackerman, Montrose, SD; two granddaughters, Ellen (Russ) DeNeui, and great-granddaughter, Maggie Noonan, Chancellor, SD, Donna Larsen, Carthage, SD and her children, Jennifer, Brandy, Robin, Evan and Donavan, and six great-great grandchildren; brother, Lester Main, Spearfish, SD; and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Roy and Winnie Main; her husband, Francis Ackerman; her son, LeRoy Ackerman; a grandson, Francis Alan Ackerman; three brothers, Kenneth, Earl, and William Main; and a sister, Carol Lane.
