Florence Knape died Thursday morning at Sanford Hospice Cottage, Luverne, MN after a long battle with Alzheimer's.

Florence Ratliff was born in Dustin, Nebraska on February 6, 1925 to David and Mary (Dobias) Ratliff. She grew up and attended school in Atkinson, NE, where, in 1940, she was one of the first candidates for Hay Days Queen. She graduated from Atkinson High School in 1942. In 1945 she married Vernon Schneider and they had a son. In 1961 she married Robert Knape and they had four children. Florence and Bob were married for 48 years, eventually settling in Sioux Falls in 1972. Florence began working as night auditor at Howard Johnson's Motor Lodge in 1976, and continued there while working full time with her husband at their business, The Grain Bin Restaurant and Lounge after they purchased it in 1983. They sold the Grain Bin and retired in 2002.

Florence was preceded in death by her husband Bob, son Bobby, daughter-in-law Marilee Schneider, her parents, sisters Viola Deseive, Vivian Schwindt, and Marge Smith, and brothers Neil, Dean, Willard, and Richard. She is survived by her children Ron Schneider, John (Gay) Knape, Steve Knape, Shelly (Don) Weideman, and Kelly (Paul) Lynch, 11 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and one sister, Lois Kissinger.

Visitation will be from 2-8 pm, Tuesday, April 12 at Miller Funeral Home, with family present from 5-7. Services will be at 1 pm, Wednesday, April 13 at Miller Funeral Home. Interment will be at Wyuka Cemetery, Lincoln, NE with graveside services Thursday, April 14 at 11:00 am. Memorials may be made to the West Holt High School Foundation or the Sanford Hospice Cottage.
