Florence Larson

Florence May Ovesen was born January 30, 1924 to Charles and Hilda (Mossberg) Ovesen in Randolph, NE. She died on September 27, 2015 at the age of 91 years, 8 months and 28 days.

In 1927 Florence moved to rural Vermillion where she was raised by her mother and Uncle Knute. She attended Clay Point grade school and high school at University High. She married Delsmore (Dellie) Larson on November 25, 1944 while he was home on furlough during WW II. They farmed in the Dalesburg community until they retired in 1984 and moved into Vermillion. During her adult life, Florence was a receptionist in Dr. Sattler's dental clinic and also cooked at the Senior Citizen's Center in Vermillion. She enjoyed cooking and baking and sharing it with her family. She loved playing cards and taught her grandchildren a number of card games. She loved attending her grandchildren's sporting events. In retirement, she embroidered hundreds of kitchen towels.

Florence is survived by three children: Diane (Paul) Johnson, Larry (June) Larson and Florene Larson; five grandchildren, Travis (Mindy) Johnson, Tracey (Todd) Halverson, Heidi (Jason) Savey, Tricia (Jason) Knutson and Marc (Erin) Larson; twelve great-grandchildren, Blake, Anna, and Molly Savey; Lane, Siri, and Lila Knutson; Cade and Addison Larson; Morgan, Peyton, and Mya Halverson; and Macy Johnson; two sisters-in-law, Erma Larson and Carol Larson; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband Dellie, her parents, Uncle Knute, and sisters Eileen Orr and Mary Nygaard.

Florence was a member of Dalesburg Lutheran Church, rural Vermillion. Services will be held at Dalesburg Lutheran Church on Thursday at 10:00 AM. Burial will be at Dalesburg Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be at Hansen Funeral Home in Vermillion on Wednesday from 5 - 7 PM with a prayer service at 6:30 PM.
