Francis Grace, 93. Of Sioux Falls, formerly of Humboldt, SD, died Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Good Samaritan Village in Sioux Falls

Francis Frederick Grace, age 93, was born December 29, 1923 in Garretson, SD to Fred & Josephine (Heidle) Grace. He was raised in the Garretson area where he received his education and graduated high school in 1943 to help his dad on the farm. Francis then joined the Army in 1946 and while serving in WWII Francis received an Army of Occupation medal. He was called to come back home in 1947 due to his dad not doing well and to help with farming.

Francis met Beatrice C. Schulte in 1948 at the Arkota Ball Room right before Valentine's Day and then proposed to Betty on her birthday, June 23, 1948. Francis and Betty were united in marriage November 9, 1948. The couple raised 7 kids on their dairy farm south of Humboldt, SD. Throughout his farming career, Francis farmed east of Sioux Falls, later moving to the Wall Lake area. They farmed north of Humboldt, SD then purchased a farm by Pumpkin Center. They lived on the farm until 1995 when he retired and they moved into Sioux Falls.

He was a member of St. Michael's Catholic Church in Sioux Falls, SD and a lifetime member of American Legion in Humboldt. Francis enjoyed playing cards, watching sports, visiting his son's farms, and spending his time with his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 68 years, Beatrice (Betty) Grace of Sioux Falls; his children Gerald (Carmen) Grace of Hartford, Janice (Jerry) Hanson of Sioux Falls, Cynthia (Duane) Voelker of Colman, F. Michael (Geri Lynn) Grace of Hartford, Nicholas (Linda) Grace of Hartford, Theresa (Bob) Johnson of Sioux Falls, and Steven (Deborah) Grace of Hartford; 19 grandchildren, 1 step grandchild, and 27 great grandchildren; sisters Josephine Brown of Brandon and Terese DeHaan of Hawarden, IA.

He was preceded in death by his parents and sisters Katherine Nelson and Lorraine Derrick.

Funeral Mass will begin 10:30 am Monday at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment will be in the St. Joseph of Wellington Cemetery, rural Humboldt, SD. Visitation with the family will be from 1:00-3:00 pm Sunday, with a Wake service beginning at 3:00 pm at St. Michael Catholic Church.
