Frank Richard Califano, 96, died March 16th, 2017. Formerly of Sioux Falls, SD and Minneapolis MN, he had been a resident of Marco Island for 35 years.

Frank was born Nov.20th, 1920 in Philadelphia, PA, the son of Martha (Monaco) and Joseph Califano Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife June, both parents and brothers Joseph Jr. and Robert.

Frank was educated in Philadelphia, attending South Philadelphia High, the University of Pennsylvania and Strayer's College of Business. He was then employed by the US Government in an Administrative capacity at the Frankford Arsenal in Philadelphia, until entering the US Army Air Corp during WWII. He served as an aerial gunner in a heavy bomber, flying missions over France and Germany.

Upon discharge from the Service, Frank entered the Life Insurance business, in which he devoted 36 years, serving in various capacities-Agent, Field supervisor, Comp and School instructor, Superintendent of Agencies, Branch and Regional Manager. Upon retirement he moved to Marco Island where he devoted his time to his church, his family and his condominium associates. During his lifetime, Frank has held memberships in the American Legion, VFW, DAV, Elks, Masonic Lodge, Lions, Marco Island Men's Club and numerous business organizations.

He is survived by his two sons, Frank Jr. (Barbara) Califano and Mark Califano, two stepsons Larry Simmons and Randy Simmons, 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 4, 2017 at 3:30 pm at Marco Lutheran Church, Marco Island, FL.
