Gerald Elliott Wogstad, 83, of Marshall, passed away Friday, September 9, 2016 in Marshall. Gerald was born June 16, 1933 in Sioux Falls, South Dakota to Christ Hollis and Alice Adelle Cooper Wogstad. He served in the United States Army for four years. On December 15, 1962, he married Joan Powles and they shared over 53 years of marriage. He was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church where he served on the worship and music committee for many years. Jerry was also responsible for many of the messages on the sign in front of the church. He had a knack for carpentry and did most of the remodeling on his home with the preciseness and patience that only Jerry could do. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and loved his family beyond measure. He will be greatly missed. He is preceded in death by his parents; and brother-in-law, Richard Hansen. Jerry is survived by his wife, Joan Wogstad; daughter, Cynthia W. Smith and husband, Michael J. of Elysian Fields; grandchildren, Jessica J. Smith of Marshall and Jennifer E. Smith of Shreveport; sister, Marvel Hansen of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; two nephews; and one niece. The family would like to thank the staff of DaVita Dialysis, the 4th floor nurses at Good Shepherd Medical Center, Dr. Logan and Nurse Linda Riley for their love and care. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Kidney Fund, 11921 Rockville Pike, Suite 300, Rockville, Maryland 20852 or to the . A memorial service will be held 1:00 pm Monday, September 19, 2016 at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Marshall with Lynne Winn officiating.
