Glenys Ortman

Glenys Grace Ortman, age 82, of Sioux Falls SD, passed away unexpectedly at home on Friday, March 4, 2016. Glenys was born on October 24, 1933, to Henry C. and Adina (Ortman) Ortman at Dolton, South Dakota. Glenys attended country school at Riverside School, and graduated from Freeman Academy in 1951. Glenys taught country school from 1951 to 1952, and then went on for further education at Tabor College where she graduated in 1956. She taught in Mitchell, SD for a short time, before she began her tenure with the Sioux Falls School District at Franklin Elementary. She received a Master's in Education from USD in 1966. Glenys loved children and poured her heart into teaching, providing a caring environment for learning. Without hesitation she also provided assistance to family and friends whenever they were in need.

Glenys was baptized and was a member of the Silver Lake Mennonite Brethren Church until it closed in summer of 2003. She currently attended Linwood Wesleyan Church in Sioux Falls.

Glenys is survived by two sisters-in-law: Loraine Ortman and Darlene Ortman; nieces and nephews: Mark Ortman, Blake Ortman, Faith (Ortman) Hartman, Bryan Ortman, Margaret (Ortman) Loewen, Marilyn (Ortman) Christmore, and Shirley (Ortman) Luce and many dear friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Adina Ortman; her brothers Elmer Ortman, Leslie Ortman, Vernon Ortman, and two half-brothers Melvin and Alvin Dick.

Funeral services will be held Friday, March 11, at 2:30pm at Heritage Funeral Home. The family will be present on Thursday, March 10, from 5:00 - 7:00 at Heritage Funeral Home.
