Grace Helwig, 89, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2017, at Sanford Hospice Cottage.

Her Funeral Service will be at 10:30 am on Saturday, January 7, 2017 at First Reformed Church, 4800 Tomar Road, Sioux Falls, SD officiated by Rev. Steve Anthes. Burial to follow in Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation with family present will be on Friday, January 6, 2017 from 5:00 - 7:00 pm at Miller Funeral Home Downtown, 507 S. Main Ave., Sioux Falls.

Grace was born 11-4-1927 in Sulligent, Alabama, to Carlos and Matti Black. After moving to Sioux Falls in her early 20s, she worked for John Morrell in the sausage cooler for 34 years. After retirement, she was a food demonstrator for the meat dept. at Hy-Vee on 26th St. She also worked at Huset's Speedway. Grace was a member of First Reformed Church.

Grace married Alvin Helwig in July 1980. They enjoyed many summers at their cabin on Lake Brandt. Grace cherished the many special friends she made over the years. They were like family to her. She was a kind soul to everyone she met. Grace was happiest when she was spending time with her daughter and her many grandchildren.

Grateful for having shared her life are her daughter Lana (Rick) Parks, Omaha, NE; granddaughter Lisa (Tanner) Hewitt, Sioux Falls, SD; Stacey (Chad) DeVries, Sioux Falls, SD; Jennifer Stansbury, Sioux Falls, SD; Matthew (Moriah) Parks, Chicago, IL; 7 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren; her sister Martha Chastain, AL.

She was preceded in death by her parents Carlos and Matti Black, her brothers John and Leon, sisters Peggy and Katherine and a nephew Hoy.
