Sioux Falls - Howard A. Daggitt Jr., 84, died Sun., Nov. 27, 2016 at the Sioux Falls VA Medical Center. His funeral service will be 11 AM Fri., Dec. 2 at George Boom Funeral Home & Cremation Services, Sioux Falls, with burial at Woodlawn Cemetery. Visitation begins at 5 PM Thur., Dec. 1 at the funeral home, where the family will greet friends from 5-7 PM.

Howard Alvin Daggitt Jr., son of Howard Daggitt Sr. and Elsie (Witt) Daggitt, was born Sept. 3, 1932 in Sioux Falls. Except for five years living in California and Washington as a child, he was a life-long resident of Sioux Falls, where he grew up and received his education.

Howard entered the U.S. Air Force on Mar. 1, 1951 in Sioux Falls and served during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged as an Airman 2nd Class on Nov. 30, 1952 at Fort Snelling, MN. He returned to Sioux Falls, where he drove truck for Ready Mix, drove a cab and also drove for Transport, Inc. In 1965, he began driving for Midwest Coast Transport.

Howard was united in marriage with Sylvia Deneke on Aug. 25, 1968 in Sioux Falls, where the couple made their home. Howard then drove for American Freight from 1968 to 1988 and for Consolidated Freight from 1989 until retiring in 1994.

Howard was a member of American Legion Post 15 and a past member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and also used to race at Husets.

Grateful for having shared his life are ten children, Leone (Lynn) Howes, Garry Daggitt, Howard Daggitt III, Jan (Alvin) Lee, Kary Mettler, Ken (Machell) Mettler, Russell (Beckie) Mettler and Laurie Mettler, all of Sioux Falls, Barb Leonard, Phoenix, AZ, Marilyn Fuller, Norfolk, NE; 24 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Leone Christianson, Sioux Falls. Howard was preceded in death by his wife, Sylvia, on July 13, 1999; a son, Larry Daggitt; a grandson, Jerod Fuller; and his parents.

Howard's family requests that memorials be directed to Sioux Falls American Legion Post 15.
