Inez Meyer

Inez LaVonne Meyer, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away Tuesday, September 20, 2016 at Luther Manor. A Memorial Service celebrating Inez's life will be held on Saturday, September 24 at 11:00 AM at Miller West Funeral Chapel in Sioux Falls with Reverend Bob Ruedebusch officiating. Inez chose to donate her body to the medical school at the University of South Dakota. Therefore, burial will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Huron, SD at a later date.

Inez was born April 9, 1925, the fourth of five children on a farm near Irwin, SD, to John and Elizabeth (Garrey) Lundquist. She graduated from De Smet High School in 1943 and from Huron Business College in 1944. Inez married Harlan Meyer on March 1, 1947 in Huron, SD. She was the loving wife and mother of three daughters: Jane, Julie and Jill.

Inez worked as a secretary for the State Farm Bureau for three years, stayed home with her young children, and then became the office manager for the Associated General Contractors of South Dakota (Building Chapter) for twenty-five years. In addition, she was active in her church activities in both Huron and Sioux Falls, had a love for music, enjoyed travel, was an avid bridge player, offered excellent hospitality to many, and was an active PEO member who also served as state president in 1982.

Inez is survived by her husband Harlan of 69 years, three daughters: Jane (David) Higgins of Castle Rock, CO; Julie (Paul) Jordahl of Sioux Falls, SD; and Jill Meyer and her special friend Phil Mather of Butte, MT. Six grandchildren include: Jarrod Johnson, Bardon (Jenny) Higgins, Connor Higgins, Adam (Suh Kim) Dickinson, Meredith (Jean Van Lier) Dickinson, and Amy (David) Lord. Two great-grandchildren include: Millie and Harlow Lord. Step-grandchildren include: Brent (Sadie) Jordahl, Nathan (Megan) Jordahl, and Bethany (Garrett) Hansen. Five great step-grandchildren include: Lauren, Rachel, Calli, Trey, and Meika.

Inez was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Milton (Neva), Warren (Lois), and Darrell (Elaine) and one sister Verna (Kent) Dempster. The family suggests in lieu of flowers, memorials be sent to fund educational opportunities for women in PEO Chapter I.
