Jack Raymond Strong

Brandon - Jack Raymond Strong, 74, passed away August 17, 2016 surrounded by his loving family in Sioux Falls, SD.

A celebration of life memorial visitation will be 4:00 - 6:00 PM Sunday, August 21, at George Boom Funeral Home & Cremation Services with family present to greet friends. Interment will be at a later date.

Jack Strong, son of Laura (McCartor) Strong Bale, was born August 5, 1942 in Auburn, Washington. He spent his early years in Washington before moving to Watertown, SD where he helped his parents at Strong's Florist. Jack was a Vietnam veteran where he served in the NAVY. After the military he worked as a research mechanic and quality control inspector at Boeing Aircraft.

His journey brought him back to the Midwest where he worked on the road on grain elevator and steel bin construction and repair, with many of the years in the ethanol and food processing industry as a pipe fitter, safety professional, and construction superintendent. Jack came off the road to be closer to home working at Pivot Power before finding his favorite job working at Diamond Mowers until his retirement.

Jack had a passion for building cars, building go carts for the family he married into, riding motorcycles, gardening and cooking. He loved to prepare a good meal and share his creation, often complimenting it with a Bud Light or two. He especially enjoyed spending time with his wife of 25 years working on projects or enjoying their deck.

He is survived by his Wife, Kathleen Haan-Strong; Mother, Laura Bale (Auburn, WA); Mother-in-law, Helen Haan, Kranzburg, SD; Sister-in-law, Ann Haan, Minneapolis, MN; close family friends, Larry, Lori and Rayna Summers, Larchwood, Iowa and Friend, Scott (Brenda) Servold, Sioux Falls, SD.

Preceded in death by his Father-in-law, Jerry Haan; Brother-in-law, Rick Haan, and Aunt, Evelyn Ketchum. Online register at
