Jake Gourley

Jake Gourley, a much loved father, son, and brother, died Tuesday, March 29, 2016 in Sioux Falls. He was 38.

Jake was born July 5, 1977, in Sioux Falls, SD to Richard Gourley and Gloria (Skancke) Johnson. He attended Mark Twain Elementary, Patrick Henry Junior High and Lincoln High School. He was a long time and proud employee of his family business, Gourley Properties. His passion for real estate and loft apartment property management was evident in his work and life.

Jake's other passions were family, food, music, art, and his many important friendships. He traveled coast to coast to visit friends and family while experiencing food and music. He loved to cook for family and friends and enjoyed exploring new restaurants in Sioux Falls and beyond. Jake supported the local Sioux Falls art community and gifted many pieces to friends and family. He was always looking forward to the next concert, festival or show in Sioux Falls and also traveled nationwide to see his favorite bands with his buddies.

He shared his happy life with his son, Julian, who was the most important person in his life and his best friend; his mother, Gloria Johnson (Greg), Sioux Falls, SD; father, Richard Gourley (Sonja), Sioux Falls, SD; brother, Paul Gourley (Karen), Sioux Falls, SD; grandfather, Bud Skancke, Baltic, SD; and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephew. He was preceded in death by brother, Luke Koistinen; grandparents, Jesse and Mavis Gourley, and grandmother, Joyce Skancke.

Public visitation will begin at 11:00 am Friday, April 1, 2016 with the family present to greet friends from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm and a prayer service starting at 7:00 pm Friday at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue. Funeral services will be held 10:00 am Saturday at First United Methodist Church, 401 S. Spring, Avenue. Public burial will be held 11:00 am at Woodlawn Cemetery, Sioux Falls. Lunch and music will follow at 12:00 pm at Icon Events (Gourley Building), 400 N. Main Avenue.

Memorials may be directed to the Jake Gourley Memorial of the Sioux Falls Area Community Foundation.
