James "Jim" Anderson

James "Jim" Eugene Anderson, 69, of Sioux Falls, SD, died Tuesday, February 9, 2016 in Gulf Shores, AL. Funeral Services will be 11:00 AM, Tuesday, February 16 at First Congregational Church-UCC in Sioux Falls. Family present visitation will be 5:00-7:00 PM, Monday, February 15 at George Boom Funeral Home.

Jim was born on February 8, 1947, to Clarence and Mabel Anderson in Sioux Falls, SD. Jim grew up in West Sioux Falls and graduated from Washington High School in 1965. He attended Sioux Falls College and received his Bachelor of Fine Arts in 1969 and a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration from Augustana College in 1974.

He enlisted in the United States Air Force on November 10, 1969, stationed at Langley Air Base, Hampton, VA; Kadena Air Base, Okinawa, Japan; and Taegu Air Base, Daegu, South Korea. He was honorably discharged on August 9, 1973.

Jim's experience as a Precision Photo Specialist led to his employment with the EROS Data Center. He was self-employed for many years specializing in furniture refinishing & restoration and carpentry. At his retirement in 2009, he was a property manager for Oakleaf Property Management. Jim also spent several years with School Bus, Inc., transporting children to and from school. He especially enjoyed transporting children with special needs.

Through the years, Jim was involved with the Boy Scouts of America, Noon Sertoma Club of Sioux Falls, National Ski Patrol, Habitat for Humanity, Parrot Heads of the Prairie, Inc., Lower Alabama Parrothead Club, Gavins Point Yacht Club, VFW and American Legion. Aside from being a loving husband, father and grandfather, Jim was happiest spending time in the water on his sailboat, Zanavoo.

Jim is survived by his wife, Joyce (Bertsch) Anderson; son, Jason (Beth) Anderson of Yankton, SD; daughters, Jennifer (Ahd) Zaman of Herndon, VA; and Jaime (Cody) Reis of Sioux Falls, SD; sister, Margaret (Bob) Neal of Watertown, SD and her daughters Robin Branhan and Terri Bjerke; grandchildren, Aysha, Adam, and Aliya Zaman; Noah, Brooke, and Aiden Anderson; Ella, Oliver and Millie Reis; mother-in-law, Ella Bertsch of Menno, SD and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Mabel Anderson.
