James D. List Obituary
James D. List

James Dean List, 57, passed away July 7, 2017 at Southridge Healthcare Center, Sioux Falls after a long battle with Parkinson's Disease.

Jim was born on April 10, 1960 to James W. and Sharon List at Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Yankton, and was educated in the Yankton Public School System. He graduated from Yankton High School in 1978, and went on to earn a degree in Business Management from The University of South Dakota in 1982. After graduating from college, Jim worked at Citibank in Sioux Falls for a short time, then worked as Assistant Manager at Sioux Falls Paint and Glass until he took early retirement in 2010 due to the progression of his Parkinson's Disease.

Jim loved and appreciated music of all kinds, especially the classic standards by artists such as Frank Sinatra and Michael Buble. He played both the piano and the trumpet, and he was also a very good singer. Jim loved attending South Dakota Symphony holiday and pops concerts, and he and his great uncle Otto used to travel around the country to various fiddling contests. Jim also enjoyed making home movies, photography, and model railroads. He possessed an amazing wealth of knowledge about American History and Government, and especially about U.S. Presidents. He was also very interested in the Titanic and knew in-depth details about the ship and its demise. Jim was a very friendly, kind, and thoughtful person and he always greeted people with a smile on his face. Jim was always glad to see visitors, and was often eager to play music for them on his stereo. He was a great conversationalist and was always up on current events. Even though he faced many challenges and adversities due to Parkinson's, he kept a positive attitude and always had a strong faith in God.

Jim was preceded in death by his father, James W., Aunts Virginia Malone and Mary Lou List, his grandparents, August and Lea List, and Herman and Edna Eggers, and his beloved godparents, Otto and Shirley Juracek. Jim is survived by his mother, Sharon List, of Yankton, sister Kim (Jon) Heck of Sioux Falls, sister Tammy (Ken) Knudtson of Brookings, 2 nephews - Adam Heck, Ft. Collins, Co and Andy Heck, Lincoln, NE, 3 nieces - Kari (Christian) Sanderfer, Omaha, NE, and Bridget and Jenna Knudtson, Brookings, one uncle, Lyle (Jane) Malone, Yankton, numerous cousins, and his best friend Chris Nelson, Chris's wife Jennifer Nelson, and their son, Mitchell Nelson, all of Sioux Falls.
