Janie Thomas Obituary
Janie Thomas

Janie Thomas, 53, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday, August 27 at the Dougherty Hospice House surrounded by her family and friends.

Janie Ellen (Knopf) Thomas was born on September 10, 1961 in Sioux Falls, SD. She graduated from Washington High School in 1979 and in 1982, Patricia Steven's School of Fashion Merchandising in Omaha, NE. On June 22, 1985, Janie was united in marriage to Mark Thomas. Proudly serving as a spouse to her Active Duty Army husband, she enjoyed living in Muldrough, Kentucky, Heilbronn, Germany, and Tacoma, Washington before settling in Janie's hometown of Sioux Falls. She was employed by International Optometry and Scheel's prior to starting her successful residential cleaning business, JET Cleaning.

Janie's love of the outdoors was evident. She was a natural adventurer. Her children were raised in the back of a Burley, and they inherited her love of bikes. She could often be found on the bike trails or walking the dogs. Family visits to her parent's cabin in Hill City, SD are cherished memories. The Black Hill always held a special place in her heart. She took advantage of many Bible studies where she enjoyed spending time with her fellow Prayer Warriors. She embraced those around her with love, encouragement, kindness and a smile.

Janie is lovingly remembered by her husband, Mark, daughter, Kelsie (Tony Helland), son, Landon, of Sioux Falls; mother, Marlene Knopf, of Rapid City; sisters, Jody (Del) Gust, of Sioux Falls, Jenny (Aaron) Bauman, of Fort Collins, CO; brother, Joel (Renae) Knopf, of Sioux Falls; nieces and nephews, Scott Thomas, John Thomas, Ben (Katy) Thomas, Tony (Meredith) Thomas, Keenan Thomas, Lizzie Thomas, Tory (Mike) Rosenkranz, Briana Gust, Xander Dannen, Sydney Fikse, Raegan Knopf, Carlie Fikse, Jaydyn Fikse, Joclyn Leu, Zach Bauman, Krisa Bauman, Adella Bauman, Annabelle Bauman, and Zofie Bauman.

She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Knopf, her grandparents, T.H. Dahl, Arthur and Velma Taecker, Elmer and Gladys Knopf, and her beloved yellow Jeep Wrangler.

Visitation will be held from 5-7 PM on Tuesday, September 1, 2015 at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue.

Funeral Services will be at 11 AM on Wednesday, September 2, 2015 at First Lutheran Church, 327 S Dakota Avenue.
