Jeane Woodard Obituary
Jeane Woodard

Jeane Woodard, 102, of White, died Sunday, April 17, 2016, at the Golden Living Center in Arlington, SD, with her son Charles at her side. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 23, at First Baptist Church in White, with interment in Fairview Cemetery. Visitations will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Friday at Eidsness Funeral Chapel in White. Memorial gifts may be designated for First Baptist Church of White or for Child Evangelism Fellowship.

Jeane Louise (Smidt) Woodard was born April 10, 1914, near White, SD, the youngest of ten children of Rieke and Justine (Tellinghuisen) Smidt. She attended country school and graduated from White High School in 1932.

On March 24, 1936, she married Clark Woodard, and they were privileged to share 58 years together. They were the parents of Jimmy Neal, Charles Lowell, and Carla Kay.

Jeane loved the role of homemaker and enjoyed entertaining family and friends. She was active in church and community affairs, and taught Sunday School and also children's Bible classes in her home for many years. She enjoyed music and reading, and writing family journals and poetry.

Jeane will be remembered for her many "quotes" from the scriptures, and others passed down from her parents, or gleaned from listening to daily radio broadcasts over the years. A favorite quote was: "Grandchildren are among God's compensations for growing old." This promise was fulfilled by Laura, Ryan and Andrea. Jeane took great pride in them and in their parents, Charles and Sarah Woodard, and in her beloved daughter, Carla Kay.

Jeane is survived by her son Charles (Sarah), her grandchildren Laura (Tim Clark), Ryan and Andrea, her great-grandsons Jack and Weston, her sisters-in-law Elta and Christine Woodard, her nieces and nephews and their families, and many other dear relatives and friends.

Jeane was preceded in death by her husband Clark, her infant son Jimmy Neal, her twin granddaughters, her daughter Carla Kay, her brothers and sisters and their spouses, Wiard and Anna Smidt, Meta and Heye Boomgarden, Etta and Jake Boomgarden, Rieke Jr. and Mary Smidt, Jo and Al Ullrich, Nick and Bessie Smidt, Dick and Ella Smidt, Georgia and Al Schutjer, and Minn and Vernon Enevoldsen, her brothers-in law Ronald, Claire and Vern Woodard, her sister-in-law Bea, and a number of other beloved relatives and friends.
