Jim Joyce, of Sioux Falls, passed away September 14th, 2016, at the age of 90 years. Services will take place Saturday, September 17th at 3:00 pm, at St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Visitation will be 5:00-8:00 pm Friday, at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Ave.

James P. Joyce Jr. was born on August 14, 1926 in Parker, SD. Jim attended Parker High School and graduated in 1944. He then served in the Army during WWII in the Philippines. Upon his return, he attended Sioux Falls College.

He was married to his wife, Grace, on December 31, 1952 and they shared their life together for 61 years. Jim was a school teacher earlier in his career, having taught in Parker, Revillo, and Hartford, South Dakota. After teaching, he began working at the Argus Leader in the Classified Advertising department, until 1977. He later worked as a real estate agent and broker in Sioux Falls until his retirement in 1992.

Jim was a well-respected business leader, volunteer for Meals on Wheels, long time member at the YMCA and donor to many service groups. Jim was active in St. Mark's Lutheran Church where he and his wife were members since 1955. He served as a church council member, choir director, and on the Evangelism Committee. He enjoyed bowling, swimming, golfing and frequent trips to see his 5 grandchildren, Michelle, Kathy, Brian, Peter and Eric.

Those left to cherish Jim's memory are his brother, Donald Joyce and wife Phyllis, Sioux Falls; son, David Joyce and wife Carole of Rochester, MN; daughter, Susan Joyce McNamara and husband Ed of Silver Spring, MD; son, Rob (April) Joyce of Sioux Falls, SD; and his many nieces, nephews, grandchildren and friends.

He is proceeded in death by his wife, Grace Joyce; father, James Sr.; mother, Rose; brother, Robert; and daughter, Brenda.

Family asks that memorial gifts be given in his name to St. Mark's Lutheran Church Outreach of Sioux Falls.
