Joyce E. Profilet Obituary
Joyce E. Profilet

Joyce Evelyn (Monger) Profilet, longtime resident of Sioux Falls, died peacefully on November 21, 2016. She was a vivacious woman who maintained a positive, gracious spirit throughout her life.

Joyce Monger was born on the family farm near Sherman, SD on August 21, 1923. After graduating from Jasper High School, she moved to Sioux Falls and worked in the office at Morrells. On a blind date arranged by her aunt, she met the love of her life, Louis Profilet, a Mississippian who was stationed at the air base. They were married on May 26, 1945 and together they raised three children. They shared 58 years together before Lou's death in 2003.

In 1971, Joyce joined Lou and two other partners in starting P & M Steel, where she served as Bookkeeper and Office Manager.

Joyce and Lou shared a love of life that extended to travel, friends, and community activities. They especially enjoyed their summer cabin in the Black Hills where they hosted friends and family in the place they called "Paradise." Joyce was an avid golfer, slipping away to play a few holes of golf during her lunch hour or extending work hours to accommodate a full round. She was an accomplished bridge player and enjoyed all sorts of physical activities.

Joyce was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church; and she and Lou also participated as members of Minnehaha Country Club and the El Riad Shrine (clown unit). The last six years of her life, she lived at Touchmark where she enjoyed many new and old friends. The family would like to thank the Touchmark and Compassionate Care staff who were so good to Joyce during this time.

Joyce will be remembered fondly by her daughter, Sue McDowell (Bob); son Tate Profilet (Mary DeJong); grandson, Rob McDowell (Allison); granddaughter, Katrin Profilet (Zach Dickson); and two sisters, Betty Bauman and Marilyn Liming. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lou; son, David; parents, Magnus and Effie Monger; brother, Ardene; and sister, Verna Mae Gilbertson.

There will be a prayer service at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S. Main Avenue, at 5:30 pm on Wednesday, December 14. The family will greet friends and family from 6 - 7:30 PM. A private burial will precede the prayer service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Sioux Falls Area Foundation or a .
