Katie Seigfred Obituary
Katie Seigfred

Katie Seigfred, 13 of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017, at her home surrounded by her loving family.

Katie Seigfred was born to Keith and Stacy early on a Sunday morning in Sioux Falls. She spent the first three years of her life in Portland, Oregon. She flew back to Sioux Falls many times to visit her extended family. In 2007, Katie and her parents moved back to the Sioux Falls area to be closer to her grandparents.

Katie went to school in Brandon and then in Sioux Falls. When she was four, she was granted a Wish from the Make A Wish foundation, and she received a hot tub. She loved to swim, and enjoyed her new 'pool' tremendously. The family continues to be grateful to the Timmer family and the employees of the Minnehaha Country Club for sponsoring Katie's wish.

Katie also swam weekly at Lifescape. She loved the warm water, and swam in the Special Olympics as a Young Athlete when she was six.

Katie wasn't interested in a lot of typical toys, but she did love to play. One day her daddy was holding her while having some lunch, and Katie reached out and knocked over his water bottle. He thought nothing of it, until she did it again. And then again. And it became a game for her. If there was a water bottle with a blue label, and she could swipe it and knock it over, she would squawk with delight.

Katie moved around the floor by scootching - she could use her heel, her back and her head to get herself across a floor. She loved to get herself to the legs of furniture. She would get her arm wrapped around a leg, then yell for help, and mom or dad would get her away from it and put her back in the middle of the room, and the game would start again.

She also loved to get underneath furniture. One day, she scootched under the couch. She would turn her head sideways when she was moving, but would look up to the ceiling when she was still. There was just enough room under the couch for her to slide under, but when she turned her head up, she was stuck. Her dad had to lift the couch while her mom pulled her out. When she found herself back in the middle of the room, she headed for the couch again.

Katie loved music, and was particularly fond of Bert and Ernie songs from Sesame Street. She loved being sung to. She loved hearing people say the alphabet. She adored being counted to, and when the counting finished, she would mimic the Count on Sesame Street- 'ah-ah-ah!'

Katie is survived by her mom Stacy and dad Keith Seigfred, her sister Anna, Granny Shirley and Pop Warren Seigfred, Gramma Jean and Grampa John Carlson, Aunt Michelle Carlson, cousins Brooke Nordman and Tyler Carlson, and many other very special people. She was an extraordinary person whose presence touched everyone she met. She will be terribly missed.

If you would like, you may honor her memory by donating to the Make A Wish foundation, Shriners Hospital, and Lifescape.

Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 7 pm on Friday, February 10, 2017, at the Miller Funeral Home Southside Chapel, 7400 South Minnesota Avenue. A funeral service will be held at 2 pm on Saturday, February 11, 2017, at Embrace Church, 2800 East 57th Street.
