Larry Ritter, 70, of Fergus Falls, Minn., died Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at Yuma Regional Medical Center, in Yuma, Ariz. Memorial services will be Thursday, June 9, 2016 at Life Church at 901 County Highway 116 in Fergus Falls, Minn. Pastor Patrick Herzog will officiate. Family will receive friends from 10:00 a.m. until service time Thursday. Burial will be at Corey Grove Cemetery at a later date. Memorials are to be determined. Lawrence Jay Ritter, Jr. was born May 14, 1946 in Sioux City, Ia. to Mary Jane (Wollen) and Lawrence Jay Ritter, Sr. He graduated from Sac City High School in 1964. He continued his education at Augustana College, earning his Bachelor of Arts degree and later earning his Master's Degree Library Science at University of South Dakota. Larry served his country as a part of the United States Army at Fort Lewis, Wash. and later as a part of the Army reserve until 1975.

In 1969, Larry was united in marriage to Kathryn Ann (Stevens) in Sioux Falls, S.D. They settled in Keokuk, Ia., where he began his teaching career as a school librarian. Larry and his family moved to Fergus Falls, Minn. where he continued his career teaching in a junior high. Larry was later divorced.

Beginning in the 1980's, Larry began to raise a large garden that he shared with family and friends, including pumpkins, gourds, potatoes, green beans, sweet corn and many more. There would be boxes and buckets transported from Minnesota back to his family in South Dakota and Iowa for them to enjoy. He also had many harvest parties for the children from school to come and enjoy the fruits of his hard work. That's when the fruit trees were added to his acreage for the children to enjoy homemade cider.

Larry also loved to fish, which could be a local lake near where he grew up to going salmon fishing in Door County, Wisc. and halibut and salmon fishing in Alaska. He always enjoyed it most when doing it with family and friends. Larry's other passions in life were cooking for family and friends and collecting antiques. Larry attend Life Church and was a member of American Legion.

Survivors include his son, Jay (wife Kristi) Ritter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; step-son, Todd (wife Suzette) Sherburne of Sioux Falls, S.D.; two grandsons, Jayden Ritter of Sioux Falls, S.D. and Jackson Ritter of Sioux Falls, S.D.; brother-in-law, Bill (wife Joan) Cramer of Gray, Ia.; two nephews, Brian (wife Sherri) Cramer of Creston, Ia. and Brad (wife Julie) Cramer of Amity, Ore. and many cousins and other family. Larry was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Kathy in 2010.
