Leland C. Pohlman, 91, formerly of Lakefield, passed away at the Dougherty Hospice House in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on Thursday, October 19th. He was 91 years, 6 months, and 5 days old. Funeral services were held at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lakefield on Wednesday, October 25th at 11am with Pastor Daniel Provost officiating. Burial took place immediately following the service at St. Peter Lutheran Cemetery in rural Lakefield.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to The Bethany Lutheran Foundation, Inc. Attention: Carmen Dougherty, 3008 East Aspen Blvd, Brandon, SD 57005.

Leland was born April 14th 1926, to George and Lillian (Burmeister) Pohlman in Lakefield MN. He was baptized May 2nd 1926 and confirmed April 2nd 1939, at St. Peter Lutheran Church Lakefield MN. Leland graduated from Lakefield High School in 1944. He was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church and Immanuel Lutheran Church.

Leland married the love of his life, Elaine Sloneker, June 13th 1948 in Fairmont MN. He and Elaine farmed until his retirement in 1989, at which time he and Elaine moved to Lakefield. He served on various church committees at both St. Peter and Immanuel Lutheran, sang in the church choir, and served on the boards of the Estherville Creamery, Des Moines Watershed, Lakefield Elevator and Lakefield Lumber Yard.

Leland enjoyed bowling, golfing, and spending time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He also took pride in maintaining his home's beautiful lawn and garden.

Due to his declining health, Leland moved to Bethany Meadows Assisted Living, Brandon SD, in 2013.

Leland is survived by his daughters, Diane Fueston, Brandon SD, Deb (Hugh) Cholick, Duluth GA, and Lee Cunningham, Harrisonville MO; three granddaughters, Heather (Hans) Eickhorst, Harrisonville MO, Kindell (Thad) Pierce, Worland WY and Kelli (Evan) Nyhof, Valley Springs SD; five great grandchildren, Brandon and Kate Eickhorst, Taylor and Samantha Pierce and Hayden Nyhof; and one sister Eleanor (Les) Mueller, Okoboji IA.

Leland was preceded in death by his parents, wife, infant son Jamie, brother Carlyle, and two sons-in-law, Clint Fueston and Dan Cunningham.
