Leo M. Liesinger was called home on Monday, February 13, 2017 at Sanford Health in Sioux Falls, SD. Leo Liesinger was born to Jake & Elsie (Friske) Liesinger on May 27, 1950 at McKennan Hospital and grew up on a farm West of Hartford, SD.

Leo attended St. Ann's Catholic school in Humboldt, SD and country school in rural Hartford, SD. Leo went to Hartford High School until he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps on March 14, 1968 in Omaha, NE. In November of 1968, Leo went to Vietnam and served two tours. Leo was honorably discharged on March 13, 1974. While in the Marine Corps Leo received the National Defense Service Medal; Vietnam Service Medal with 3 devices; Vietnam Campaign Medal with device; Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame; Good Conduct Medal; Navy Unit Citation; Pistol & Rifle Marksman Badge.

In January of 1976, Leo met Cindy A. Peterson in Hartford, SD; they were joined in holy marriage on July 24, 1976. They were able to spend over 40 years of marriage together. Leo and Cindy were blessed with two daughters, Anna (Tom) Mitchell and Lisa (Tony) VandeMore, and three grandchildren Abby, Ethan and Declan.

Leo worked at John Morrell's in Sioux Falls, SD for a number of years. In 1989 Leo graduated from Southeast Vocational Technical Institute with a 4.0 grade average, while working full-time, with his HVAC license. He then went to work for Heistek Heating & Cooling and R&E Jones Heating and Cooling in Sioux Falls, SD. Leo returned to John Morrell's after a number of years and retired from there due to health problems.

Leo loved being with his family and playing cards. Whenever there was a family gathering, you could count on Leo arriving with his bag of pinochle cards and his own shuffler. Leo always said he should have bought a farm so he took great pride in his in town garden and helping his sister, Roxie with her garden on the farm. Leo loved being with his grandkids taking special care of them; spoiling them in a way only he could. Leo also had a great love for West Central Football, Notre Dame Football and Yankees Baseball! Before Leo's health declined, he was an avid hunter & fisherman and enjoyed doing these activities with his brothers and nephews.

Survivors include wife, Cindy Liesinger of Hartford, SD; two daughters, Anna (Tom) Mitchell of Hartford, SD; Lisa (Tony) VandeMore of Harrisburg, SD; three grandchildren, Abigail & Ethan Mitchell, Declan VandeMore; four sisters, Donna Kueter of Sioux Falls, SD; Kay Lueth of Sioux Falls, SD; Cheryl (Steve) McIntosh of Morrison, CO; Roxanne Whalen of Hartford, SD; brother Dean (Janet) Liesinger of Sioux Falls, SD; brother-in-law Bill Jesse (Hattie) of Sioux Falls, SD; sister-in-law Bev Liesinger of Hartford, SD; father and mother-in-law LeRoy & Janice Peterson of Hartford, SD; brother-in-law Randy Peterson of Spearfish, SD; sister-in-law Lori (Brad) Pepper of Longmont CO; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father Jake Liesinger, his mother Elsie (Friske) Liesinger, brother Wayne Liesinger, and sister Judy Jesse.

Funeral services will begin at 10:30 am Saturday at St. George Catholic Church, 408 S Western Ave, Hartford SD. Interment will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery following the service. Visitation with the family will be from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm with prayer service beginning at 7:00 pm on Friday evening at St. George Catholic Church. www.kinzleyfh.com
