Leona Yvonne (Cluts) Hink Obituary
Leona Yvonne (Cluts) Hink

Leona (Lee) Hink passed away peacefully on December 28, 2016, in Lakeland, Florida, at the age of 100.

Lee was born in Clark County, Vienna, South Dakota, on March 27, 1916, to John and Mildred Glines Cluts, and was the oldest of 6 children.

Leona spent much of her young adult life in the Vienna area. She graduated from high school in 1934. The most exciting part of her young life was spent playing the piano for the first family band called "the Static Stompers". As the girls grew older, each played an instrument and the name was changed to "Doll Cluts and her Melody Girls". With this family group they played for nearly nine years in four different states.

When brother, John Jr, was 6 months old, they moved to Dell Rapids, South Dakota, where Leona met her husband, Milton "Rip" Hink, and they were married on November 20, 1938. They had two sons, Dennis and Randy. They then moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Lee attended Nettleton Commercial College and then taught there for 26 years, retiring in December 1978.

In January 1979 Rip and Lee retired to Tropic Star Park in Pharr, Texas, where they volunteered for many activities including round and square dancing, golf course, sewing, paper tole and cards. After her husband's death in 1998, Leona moved to Florida to be near their son, Dennis, Kay and family.

She was preceded in death by her husband "Rip" of nearly 60 years, her parents, her sisters, Ardella Fuhrman, Vivian de Ment, and Irene Wagner, and two brothers, John Cluts, Jr and George Cluts. She is survived by her two sons, Dennis (Kay) Hink of Lakeland, Florida, and Randy (Karen) Hink of Yachats, Oregon. 2 grandchildren, Jeff (Teresa) Hink of Memphis, Tennessee, and Jim (Heather) Hink of Arlington, Tennessee, and two great-grandchildren, Logan born on Lee's 92nd birthday, and Avery Hink of Arlington, Tennessee.
