Leone Christopherson, 100, of Vermillion, South Dakota, passed away peacefully on Friday morning, February 19, 2016 at Sanford Vermillion Care Center.

A Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 24, 2016 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Rev. James Fowler officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Bluff View Cemetery in Vermillion, South Dakota.

Leone Christopherson was born January 7, 1916 in her grandparent's home, 14 miles northeast of Vermillion to Andy and Jessine (Hansen) Lawrensen.

She attended Rockfield District for nine years before she began her sophomore year in Vermillion High School graduating in 1933. She continued her further education by attending two years of business training in Sioux City, Iowa and worked in an office in Sioux City, Iowa, until she was united in marriage to Earl Eklund. They were married for 15 years until he preceded her in death.

Leone worked in ASC office in Vermillion for many years until she met another love of her life, Herb Christopherson and they got married. They built a home on east Main Street, living there for 32 years. Herbert died on April 19, 2004.

In her spare time, she developed the love of an art of oil painting and china painting. Her hobbies were knitting and crocheting.

She was a life-long member of Trinity Lutheran Church in Vermillion and was devoted to her time in her church participating in all church activities.

She is survived by her brother, Glen (Paula) Lawrensen of Vermillion; several nieces and nephews; her sister-in-law, Myrtle Hickman of Vermillion.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her two husbands, Earl Eklund, and Herbert Christopherson; her brother, Elvin (Anna) Lawrensen; her sister, Grace (Elmore) Johnson.

The Kober Funeral Home of Vermillion has been entrusted with the services.
