Lois Sweeney Obituary
Lois Sweeney

Lois L. Sweeney, 99, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, June 6, 2017 at the Sanford Hospice Centennial Cottage in Sioux Falls, SD.

Lois Laverne Olson was born February 17, 1918 in Sioux Falls, SD to Albert and Laverne (Wycoff) Olson. She was raised in Sioux City, IA and graduated from Cathedral High School. Lois was united in marriage to Dr. Lloyd J. Sweeney in 1942, and the couple were blessed with three children. In 1946, they moved to Sanborn, IA where they raised their family, and moved to Sioux Falls, SD in 1966. In 1991, after residing in Sun City, AZ for 13 years, the couple returned to Sioux Falls once again to be closer to family.

Lois always had a timeless sense of style and had a great love for dogs, especially her dog, Eli. She enjoyed a good game of bridge, spending time with family and friends, and playing her piano. While partial to big band swing music, she could play almost anything on the piano after hearing it just once, augmenting most of it with an upbeat, jazzy, syncopated rhythm. It was who she was!! Lois loved to dance, whether it be ballroom, tap, ballet, you name it. She was very active and could do the splits well into her 40's to the amazement of her children, who couldn't.

Lois liked looking at the bright side of life, and in the past few years when asked how she was doing, her go to expression was, "I am still kicking, but not as high." We think she is kicking high once again in the heavens above!

Grateful for having shared her life are her loving children, Michael Sweeney of Seattle, WA, Patricia (Terry) Schulte of Sioux Falls, SD and Mary Jayne Sweeney of Sioux Falls, SD; dear grandchildren, Mike (Julie) Schulte of Sioux Falls, SD, Lisa (Nick) Bruggeman of Omaha, NE, Kaitlyn Schulte of Denton, TX and Joe Sweeney of Topeka, KS; her cherished great-grandchildren, Zack, Molly, Zach, Joe, Will and Ava. She was a loving mother and grandmother, and she will be missed by all.

Lois is preceded in death by her beloved husband, her parents, a brother and a sister.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to LifeScape, 2501 W. 26th St., Feeding South Dakota, or any local .

The Schulte and Sweeney family would like to thank all of the caregivers at Sanford Hospice Centennial Cottage, who gave Lois such excellent care. Also, would like to thank those at Avera McKennan and Trail Ridge Senior Living where Lois resided for 17 years.

Recitation of the Holy Rosary will begin at 9:00 am Monday, June 12, 2017 and visitation with family present 9:30 until time of Funeral Mass 11:00 am at Christ the King Catholic Church, 1501 West 26th Street, Sioux Falls, SD. Interment Calvary Cemetery, Sioux City, IA.
