Marie Yvonne Nixon

Marie Yvonne Nixon passed away October 19, 2016 in San Diego, California.

Services will be held at St. Michael's Cemetery in Sioux Falls on Saturday, July 22, 2017. Visitation in the Chapel will begin at 10:00 am, with committal services following at 10:30 am.

Marie was born March 28, 1930, in Aberdeen, SD, to Rudy and Rose Meurer and grew up in Sioux Falls. After attending Washington High School, Marie moved to Rapid City, and began working at Ellsworth Air Force Base Post Exchange. It was there she met the love of her life, Charles. Working as an MP at the base, he greeted Marie each morning as she arrived to work. Although she declined several times, he finally persuaded her to accept an invitation to dinner. "That was that" as she would say...

They married on January 6, 1951 at St. Joseph's Cathedral, and together raised their family of 7 children in Sioux Falls. Marie was a loving Wife, Mother, and Grandmother, who devoted her life to raising her family. She always said she wouldn't have had it any other way.

Marie loved family visits, watching good "old" movies, listening to music, and hanging up on her kids when they interrupted her favorite Lifetime movie. She had a beautiful smile, a memorable laugh, and sharp sense of humor. Her milk-toast was beyond compare, "Mom's stove popcorn" a treasured treat, and her potato dumplings were the best!

For many years she enjoyed working at Ron Park Drug, and the true friendships made during that time. She was able to escape many harsh Midwest Winters visiting her Kids and Grandkids in California and Texas. So many happy memories, and special times.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles Nixon, a son, Richard Lee Nixon; brothers Dale, Richard, James, Ramon, Baby Meurer and sister RosaLee Gallantine.

Grateful for having shared her life are her children, Charlene (Chris) Monroe, Escondido, CA; Robert (Carla) Nixon, Lincoln, NE; Daniel (Lauren) Nixon, Murieta, CA; Kathleen (Kent) Bormann, Scottsdale, AZ; Patricia (Bill) Compton, Dallas, TX; Jennifer Nixon, San Diego, CA; Grandchildren Tim (Amber) Monroe, Katie Monroe, Joni (Jeremy) Rayburn, Taylor and Carly Nixon, Mitchell, Maggie, and Patrick Compton; Great-Grandchildren Peyton, Cooper, Ryan and Dylan Rayburn; and Charlie Marie Blake; Two Step-Grandchildren Tom Castelli and Tracy Chamberlain; Sisters Patricia Elofson, Verone Reynolds and brother Robert (Doris) Meurer; and numerous, cherished, nieces and nephews.
