Canton. Marlin H. "Marly" Anderson, 89, passed away Friday, October 14, 2016 at Canton Good Samaritan Society. His funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 18, at Canton Lutheran Church. Visitation will be Monday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Anderson Funeral Home, Canton, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.

Marly was born February 3, 1927 at Davis, SD, to Alfred and Emelia (Erickson) Anderson. Following his graduation from Centerville High School in 1945, he entered the US Army and served in the Philippines. He was honorably discharged in 1946 and returned to the family farm. He was later called back to service during the Korean Conflict, where he served at Ft. Knox and Breckenridge, KY from 1952 to 1954. Following his discharge, he moved to Canton where he worked as a bartender at the Canton Municipal Store until 1957. He began hauling milk for Newton Hills Dairy in 1957.

Marly was united in marriage to Patricia Stoops February 19, 1956 in Canton. He purchased his milk route in 1959 and operated Anderson Dairy until 1991. Marly worked at the Canton Food Center from 1991 to 1997. An active member of the community, Marly served on the Canton Volunteer Fire Department from 1964 to 1991. He was Fire Chief from 1982 - 1984. He was also a member of the VFW, American Legion, and Moose Lodge. He loved camping and dancing. His wife, Pat, died in 2007.

Grateful for having shared his life are: his children: Tim (Gretchen), Brandon, SD; Terry (Wendy), Franklin, TN; Vikki Brende, Canton; Tom (Ginger), Rochester, MN; grandchildren: Brian Anderson, Brad (Tiffany) Anderson, Tanya (Tim) Pogue, Jordan Brende, Steve Anderson, and Josh Anderson; two great-granddaughters- Annabella and Aria; special friend, Lois Ulrickson; and sister, Delores (Lowell) Warner, Sioux Falls. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Pat, sister, Ardis Johnson, and brothers, Lester and Eldon.
