Martha Elizabeth Hopper, 88, of Sioux Falls, SD, passed away peacefully on Monday, July 10, 2017 at Avera Dougherty House surrounded by her family. Memorial visitation with family present to greet friends will be Wednesday, July 19, 2017, from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m., at George Boom Funeral Home, Sioux Falls. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Dougherty Hospice House or the .

Martha Elizabeth Pillar, daughter of Adolph Pillar and Margaret (Stern) Pillar was born August 21, 1928 in Clayton, SD. Martha attended Freeman Lutheran School in Freeman, SD. She worked as a cook in various locations, including the Elks Club, Normandy Restaurant, Northwestern Bell and EROS Data Center. Martha was united in marriage to Gene Hopper on November 1, 1961.

Martha was a member of Jasper Chapter 8, Eastern Star in Sioux Falls and the Shrine Auxiliary. Martha was proud of her family and loved spending time with them. She enjoyed watching the Minnesota Twins, gardening, crossword and jigsaw puzzles and reading.

Grateful for sharing her life are her children, Jean (Chuck) Blain of Fedora, SD, Dean (Cherie) Hopper of Sioux Falls, SD, Jane (Dave) Reimnitz of Sioux Falls, SD, Margaret Adams (Nick Smart) of Prescott Valley, AZ, Linda Alexander of Sioux Falls, 12 grandchildren; Jennifer Barber, Jocelyn Froehlich, Elizabeth Vogelsong, Michelle Schwartz, Nathan Hopper, Forrest Hopper, Amber Reimnitz, Adam Reimnitz, Samantha Adams, Zachary Hopper, Daisy Hopper and Ronomy Alexander, 13 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, special friends Betty Nordman and Arlin Devos and many other relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Gene, her son Gary, an infant son, sisters Erna Schmidt, Alvina Dunham, Louise Lohse, brother Henry Pillar, one niece and one nephew.
