Mary Jean Collins

Mary (Jean) Collins passed away March 24, 2013, at the Prince of Peace Nursing Home in Sioux Falls, SD.

Jean was born May 4, 1918, in Newcastle, Wyoming, to Emmett Patrick and Lillian A. (Myers) Coyle. She received her education in the Newcastle Public Schools from which she graduated in 1935.

She was employed in various county offices and the Farm Home Administration in Newcastle. On August 23, 1937, she was united in marriage to Wayne W. Collins at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Newcastle.

The couple and their three children moved to rural Wakonda, SD in January 1955. She was employed in the Security State Bank, later to become the United National Bank of Wakonda, then the First Premier Bank for twenty-eight years, retiring in 1984.

She was a member of the Saint Patrick Altar Society, Cu He Lo Club, and the Heritage Manor Auxiliary.

Survivors are her son Michael (Judy) and daughter Mary Kay Petersen (Larry), daughter-in-law Mary Collins, six grandchildren: Robert Petersen (Kathi), Beth Grubl (Dan), Linda Odens (Russ), Jennifer Bancroft (fiancé Shane Port), Flynn Collins (Amy), David Collins (Monica), and nine great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her son Patrick, her parents, step mother Margaret, a half-brother and half-sister, aunts, uncles and one cousin.

Visitation and Rosary will be at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Wakonda, SD 9:30 AM April 2, 2013 with Mass of Christian Burial following at 10:00 AM.
