Funeral Mass for Mrs. Maxine Mary Tennyson Monk, 97 of Jacksonville, Alabama was held Thursday, August 9, 2018 at St. Charles Barromeo Catholic Church in Jacksonville, Alabama, Father Jim Handerhan officiating. Mrs. Monk passed away July 30, 2018 at Regional Medical Center. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, LTC Marion Miller Monk; daughter, Barbara M. Monk; brother, Joseph Allen Tennyson; and parents, Wilfred and Margaret (Maggie) Sullivan Tennyson of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Mrs. Monk was a native of Montrose, SD and a long time resident of Jacksonville, Alabama She grew up in Sioux Falls, SD attending Longfellow Grade School and Cathedral Catholic High School, graduating in 1938. Mrs. Monk received her degree in nursing from McKennan Hospital School of Nursing in 1941 and Minneapolis General Hospital University of Minneapolis, MN. Mrs. Monk was an active member of St. Charles Church, the Golden Belles and Garden Club. During WWII Mrs. Monk served her country as a 1st Lt. in the U.S. Army Nurse Corp. As a RN, she worked for many years at Noble Army Hospital before retiring. Her survivors include her son, Robert (Bob) M. Monk; daughters, Tennyson A. Townsley and Patricia J. Monk; sons-in law, Richard H. Townsley and Mel Pocock.
