Merrill Dean Harris Sr.

Merrill Dean Harris, Sr., 79, of Plankinton, SD, passed away Saturday, October 31, 2015 in Plankinton. Funeral Services are 10:30 A.M. Tuesday, November 3, 2015 at the United Methodist Church in Plankinton. A Committal Service will follow at Mizpah Cemetery. Visitation will be held at the church from 5:00 - 7:00 P.M. Monday, November 2, 2015 with a 7:00 P.M. Prayer Service.

Merrill Dean Harris was born on July 21, 1936 to Harold and Lola (Mullen) Harris in Mitchell, SD. He graduated from Plankinton High School in 1954 and attended South Dakota State University in Brookings, SD. On November 25, 1960 Merrill was united in marriage to Judith Colvin at the Plankinton United Methodist Church. He and Judy farmed together until 1981 and he was an American Family Insurance Agent in Plankinton for 34 years.

Merrill was active in the Plankinton community as a member of the United Methodist Church, participated in the Masons through Plankinton Lodge #61, and belonged to Lacatoh Chapter #30 Order of the Eastern Star where he served as a Grand Officer for the SD Grand Chapter in 1990. Merrill loved attending and photographing his children's and grandchildren's events. He also enjoyed reading, golfing, traveling and nature photography.

Grateful for having shared in Merrill's life: his three children, six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren: son, Dean (Carla) Harris of Flandreau, SD and their children: Tanner Harris of Flandreau, SD and Amber Harris and Avah of Brookings, SD; daughter, Shawn (Larry) Wibben of Rock Rapids, IA and their children: Erin (Travis) Berg and Hadley of Harrisburg, SD and Steph (Dylan) Reynolds of Sioux City, IA; son, Darin (Debbie) Harris and their children: Shelby and Matthew all of Sioux Falls, SD; a brother, Ron (Joan) Harris of Milan, IL; two sisters-in-law, Evie Harris of Plankinton, SD and Charlene (Don) Duffy of Tucson, AZ; along with many nieces and nephews.

Merrill was preceded in death by: his wife, Judith Harris (Feb. 27, 2012); his parents, Harold and Lola (Mullen) Harris; mother and father-in-law, Jay and Jo Colvin; a brother, Gordon Harris; and a sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Rhodora and Roy Simpson.
