Sioux Falls - Monte Douglas DeJong, of Sioux Falls, passed away on Tuesday, May 15, 2018. Funeral details will follow here.

Monte Douglas DeJong was born on December 10, 1956 in Boyden, Iowa to Joan Ruth (Westra) Roth and Arvin Carl DeJong. He grew up and resided mainly in Iowa, Michigan, Texas, and South Dakota. He eventually put down permanent roots in Texas, married Shawna Blom on January 19, 1980, had three beautiful children, and lived in Houston, Texas until a tragic accident in 1998. He then moved back to South Dakota where he has since resided the last 18 years.

Forever grateful to have shared his life and will miss him dearly, children Rachel Lynn DeJong (Sioux Falls), Brittnee Ann DeJong (Carrollton, TX), Michael Jeffrey DeJong (Carrollton, TX), grandson Carson Douglas Lofswold (Sioux Falls), stepfather John Roth (Pat) (Nebraska), sister Dawn Cucchia (League City, TX), brother Todd Sharlow (Darci) (Sioux Falls), brother Joseph DeJong (Michigan), brother Cody DeJong (Texas). Always a brother more than a best friend, Benny Cucchia (League City, TX), special "daughter" Hawk Martinez (Sioux Falls), as well as lots of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Monte was preceded in death by his father Arvin Carl DeJong, mother Joan Ruth Westra Roth, sister Lainie Bea DeJong, brother Jeffrey Dean Sharlow, grandparents Mary and Clarence DeJong, and grandparents Peter P. and Della Westra.

Funeral services will begin 10:30 am Friday at First Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Interment will be in the Hope Cemetery, Hull, Iowa. Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service time on Friday.
