Pat was born in Aberdeen, SD, on February 14, 1930 - Valentine's Day - to Mike and Ella (Groft) Twiss. Raised in the small town of Doland, SD, she resembled Shirley Temple and embraced life with a smile and warm heart. Pretty and popular, she enjoyed spending quality time with friends and family and traveling around the country with her parents.

Pat's father owned Security State Bank, and the banking industry was important to the family. After graduating from Doland High School, she attended South Dakota State University to study history, sing in the choir and enjoy everything that college life had to offer. She then returned home to live with her parents and work at the family business.

In 1959, Pat met George Manolis, an attorney practicing law in Huron, through mutual friends. A year later, they married. Pat was a devoted wife and mother. Gentle and patient, she took great pride in making her home as welcoming and comfortable as possible. She thoroughly enjoyed entertaining family and the long list of friends and associates that her husband would invite to "come out to the house" on a frequent basis. She would greet her guests warmly and offer them generous hospitality. She especially loved having company for the holidays, and would transform her home into a festive gathering place.

Pat's involvement in the community included being a member of PEO Chapter AN and an avid member of the Huron Garden Club for many years. She loved working in her garden. Under her tender care, her garden flourished, with her favorite bloom being pink roses. She was proud of her flowers and plantings, and enjoyed spending summer days cultivating the soil and tending to the seedlings. Pat also loved birds, in particular cardinals, and would whistle to them to hear their reply while working in the yard.

Pat was known for her devotion to her husband George for 48 years, who preceded her in death in September 2008. She is also preceded in death by her parents, and her brothers, Woodrow and Gordon. In addition to her daughter, Joan, Pat is survived by many nieces and nephews.

She will be remembered fondly for her dedication as a wife and mother and for her nurturing, warm personality.

The family would like to offer a heartfelt thank you to the caregivers who during the past few years did an outstanding job of helping with Pat's needs in a loving and caring way.
