Patricia Sue Park Obituary
Patricia Sue Park

Patricia Sue Olson was born to Harold and Edith Olson on Oct. 7th, 1930 in Huron, SD. Her parents divorced early on and she spent much of her childhood with adoring grandparents in Huron while her mother worked in the state capital in Pierre. In 1941, Pat transitioned from city girl to country girl when her mother married legislator, Albert Risty and moved the family to his farm in Corson, SD.

Pat attended Brandon Valley schools. She was an excellent student, a friend to all, and enjoyed Journalism club and cheerleading. She graduated from High School in 1948 and briefly attended South Dakota State University before securing a secretarial job at John Morrell & Co. in Sioux Falls.

Pat was united in marriage to Ron Park on Dec. 26th, 1949 and lived in Sioux Falls where their first child, Terry was born in 1951. In 1952, the small family moved to Valley Springs, SD when Ron, a pharmacist, purchased Valley Drug. The couple's second child, Penny Sue, was born in 1953 and the family remained in Valley Springs until 1956 when Ron partnered with Tom Mills to open Mills Park Drug in Sioux Falls. The couple purchased the family home on Sherman Ave. and had two more children; Lori in 1958 and Juli in 1966.

Pat enjoyed being home with her children and filled the house with love and laughter. She never missed a play, concert, conference, or awards ceremony. She was a proud Mom and she made her children feel cherished. The Park family spent summers at the family cabin on Lake Poinsett all through the children's growing years and well into those of the grandkids. Pat loved the simple things in life and was especially kind to small children and animals. Pat was a good friend and was known for staying in touch with others with cards and letters.

After her husband's death in 2013, Pat lived at Edgewood Vista Memory Care in Sioux Falls, where, as always, she was the life of the party.

Pat is survived by daughters, Lori (Will) Park-Smith of Willmar, MN; Juli (Mark) Kinzer of St. Paul, MN; son-in-law Leroy Story of Sioux Falls; daughter-in-law Kathy Hayes-Park of Albuquerque, NM; her grandchildren, Jason (Kim) Gibson, Heather (Tim) Park, Jason (Sarah) Story, Jami (Shawn) Story, Matthew, Harrison, and Parker Smith, Sofie and Jimmy Kinzer, nine great grandchildren and her brother, Roger Olson of Colorado.

Gone before and there to greet her were her parents, her husband, Ron, son Terry, daughter Penny Sue, and brother, Elliott Risty.

Visitation begins 4:00 Sunday with the family present from 5:00-7:00 Sunday evening at Miller Funeral Home, 507 S Main Avenue. A luncheon and fellowship time will begin 11:00 Monday followed by the funeral beginning at noon at Miller Funeral Home.
