Robert Lee Williams, 92, of Sioux Falls, died Thursday, October 20, 2016 at Sanford/USD Medical Center.

Memorial Visitation with the family present will be from 5:00 - 7:00 pm Monday, October 24, at Miller Funeral Home-Westside Chapel, 6200 W. 41st Street.

Memorial Service will be 11:00 am Tuesday, October 25 at Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, 4801 W. 41st St.

Robert Lee Williams, son of David and Marietta (Cleveland) Williams, was born May 10, 1924 in Sioux Falls, SD. He was raised in Larchwood, IA where he graduated from Larchwood High School in 1942.

Robert was immediately drafted into the US Army and served during WWII. He was stateside for two years.

Robert was united in marriage with Helen R. Hendrikson on December 24, 1944 in Ihlen, MN. He continued his service in the European Theater until his honorable discharge in 1945.

He returned to Larchwood where he operated the Standard Service Station until 1955. Moved to Sioux Falls where he operated Bob's Texaco Service Station until 1965. He worked various sales jobs until the mid-1970's when he began working in Sales and Distribution for Mid-America Energy where he worked until his retirement in 1986.

Robert loved music and as a youth would take the train from Larchwood to Sioux Falls for music lesion where he learned to play the violin. He continued his love for music by singing for many years in the American Legion Post #15 Legionnaires Chorus. He also enjoyed old cars.

He was an adventurous man who in his mid-30's acquired his pilot's license for which he still possessed and had the opportunity to co-pilot a special flight dedicated to him in 2014 for his 90th birthday.

Robert and Helen loved traveling and had traveled the 48 continental states, and also the Scandinavian Countries. They lived in Arizona for 16 years.

He was a member of Sunnycrest United Methodist Church, American Legion Post #15, and Legionnaires Chorus.

Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 71 years, Helen, Sioux Falls, SD; daughter, Deborah McMicheal, Sioux Falls, SD; two grandsons, Randall (Jenn) McMicheal, Chandler, AZ, Robb McMicheal, Sioux Falls, SD; two great granddaughters, Jennifer McMicheal, Sioux Falls, SD and Sloane McMicheal, Chandler, AZ; and many nieces and nephews.

Robert was preceded in death by his son, Randall Lee Williams, who lost his life serving in the Vietnam War in 1968; his parents, David and Marietta Williams; two brothers, Dean and Gordon Williams; and a sister, Janet Thoms.

Memorials may be directed to the Randall Williams Endowed Scholarship Fund at Augustana College or Sunnycrest United Methodist Church.
