Roger Krenz Obituary
Roger Krenz

Roger Krenz, age 79, passed away Thursday October 8, 2015 in Sioux Falls. Family will greet friends from 3:00-5:00 pm Sunday October 11, at Miller Funeral Home 507 S. Main Ave. A private family committal will take place Monday at Woodlawn Cemetery, followed by a 2:00 pm Celebration of Life at First United Methodist Church.

Roger Duane Krenz was born on August 15, 1936, in White, SD, to Louie and Gladys (Steinbach) Krenz. He was the eighth child of ten children. He graduated from White High School in 1954. Roger joined the Army in 1957, he then transferred to the SD Air National Guard where he served until his retirement in 1995. During his time of military service he also worked at his in-laws' business, Ceramic Hobby Supply. After retirement from the SDANG, he worked many years at Target.

Roger met his future bride through his sisters. He married Carol June Hayenga on March 26, 1960. The couple raised five children in Sioux Falls. As a family they enjoyed spending time at the cabin on Lake Madison. They were active at First United Methodist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Roger was active with the men's breakfast and was well known for his pancakes. Roger and Carol were active members of the Independent Order of Foresters. It was funny how no matter where Roger went, he would always run into someone that he knew.

In addition to his family, Roger's passion was bowling. He was often on at least 3 leagues at the same time and held officer positions for many years. He was secretary of the Sioux Falls Bowling Association and attended the National Bowling Tournament for many years. He was inducted into the South Dakota Bowling Hall of Fame in 2002 for his meritorious service. He was inducted into the Sioux Falls Bowling Hall of Fame in 2007. He passed this passion on to his children as they all enjoy bowling as he did.

Roger was proud of his military service. He started as a payroll clerk and he had many other positions in his 38 years of service in the SD Air National Guard. Roger also served as the SD National Guard Enlisted Association President. He traveled to many countries including Norway, England, and Germany. He retired with the rank of Master Sergeant. He was an inspiration to his son who also joined the SDANG.

Grateful to have shared in his life are his children: Monica (Dan) Bader, Pierre, SD; Shirley Krenz, Council Bluffs, IA; Ron (Lori) Krenz, Sioux Falls, SD; Nancy (Troy) Solsaa, Waverly, NE; and Cynthia (Scott) Winters, Moore, OK; his sisters Myrt Kruse, Glendale, AZ; Doris Olson, Grass Valley, CA; Ardith (Eddie) Texley, Pipestone, MN; and Marilyn (LaVern) Romsdahl, Seattle, WA; sister in law Jeannie Surdez, Howard, SD; brother in law Jerry (Sharon) Hayenga, Omaha, NE; 6 grandchildren Brittany (Krenz) (Nathan) Bandstra, Taran Krenz Xavier, Matthew and Nathan Bader, Miranda Solsaa, and Alecia Winters; one great grandchild Ember; many nieces and nephews including one special niece Jin Severson. Roger also had a special friend in Lynn Bethke. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol, one daughter, one daughter in law, 2 brothers, 3 sisters and his parents. www.millerfh.com
