Rolland W. Christians, age 81, of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, formerly of Edgerton, Minnesota, died peacefully on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Luverne, Minnesota. Funeral services will be on Thursday, September 3 at 10:30 AM at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls with a visitation on Wednesday from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls. Burial will be at Hillside Cemetery in Edgerton. Colonial Funeral Home in Edgerton, Minnesota is in charge of arrangements.

Rolland Wayne Christians was born on May 28, 1934 in Murray County, Minnesota to George and Mattie Christians. He attended Edgerton Christian School and graduated from Western Christian High School in Hull, Iowa. He entered the US Army in 1954 and was stationed in El Paso, Texas and the Panama Canal. After his discharge, he returned to Edgerton and on August 17, 1956, he was united in marriage to Joyce Vos. They resided on a farm until 1966 when they moved to Sioux Falls, South Dakota where Rolland was employed for 44 years at the Sioux Falls Stockyards with several firms. He enjoyed this work and especially visiting with area farmers about cattle. After retirement, they stayed in Sioux Falls and wintered in Mesa, Arizona. On May 20, 2015, Rolland entered into the Minnesota Veteran's Home in Luverne where he resided until his death on Sunday, August 30, 2015 at the age of 81 years, three months and two days.

After their retirement, Rolland and Joyce enjoyed volunteer work. Rolland loved playing softball, golfing, singing in several choirs, playing cards and going fishing. His favorite times were visiting with his children and grandchildren. Rolland is a long time member of the First Christian Reformed Church in Sioux Falls and of the American Legion in Edgerton for the past 42 years.

Rolland is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joyce of Sioux Falls; children, Randy (Sharolyn) Christians of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Lori (Andrew) Bailey of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, and Mark (Lisa) Christians of Sioux Center, Iowa; eight grandchildren and their spouses; two great-grandchildren; his brothers, Clares (Dena) Christians of Edgerton and Byron (Andrea) Hoogwerf of Indianapolis, Indiana; his sisters, Lavonne Roach of Byron Center, Michigan and Verla (Jerry) Blom of Bozeman, Montana; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, George, Mattie and Nellie and brother-in-law Dick Roach.

Memorial contributions may be given to Sioux Falls Christian Schools or The Luke Society.
