Sara Lee Rikansrud Obituary
Sara Lee Rikansrud

Hi, Sara here. I just wanted to tell a little about my life as it is not made up of just dates, but experiences, loves, failures and hope.

I was born the third child of Erden Aldrich and Dale Sall on February 7, 1948. Growing up I never lacked for love and friendship. There was always something to do and childhood rushed by.

On to school at Cathedral, O'Gorman, SDSU, USD and graduating in 1971 with majors in English and history, and minors in art, Spanish and anthropology...and all in four years!

On to traveling with best friends Sharon Dolittle and Connie Wong, first to west coast, California, Oregon and Washington, working our way across the country waitressing, field work picking raspberries and cherries. So many adventures to share, so much fun! Next on to east coast via Toronto finally ending up in Burlington, Vermont. Sharon and I worked at a Travel Lodge and Connie played guitar and sang at our favorite pub. This adventure lasted about 9 months, we were homesick so Sharon and I packed our bags and headed home in a 1961 Ford with no first gear or reverse and a hole in the back floor, but we made it!

Back in Sioux Falls I met and married my husband of 22 years, Doug Rikansrud. We farmed near Canton for 7 years starting our family and having two beautiful children, Nathan and Leah. What joy they were to us. When the kids left for college, I moved to Sioux Falls where I found a career at SVH for 31 years in cardiovascular and medical records. Still keep those friendships today.

Meanwhile, grand kids on the way with twin girls to Leah, Olivia and Ella, and a beautiful grandson Colbin to Nathan. More grand kids on the way with Tavin and Hudson and soon to be Beau. Remember to try and keep these kids grounded but ready for all the adventures life has for them. I know they come from a secure base.

I feel I've always been blessed during my life with wonderful family and friends. I've always trusted in the Lord to see me though, so for now I say goodbye and I love you all so much! We will meet again.

Don't be sad when you think of me, but rather celebrate all the good times, shared memories and lift a glass now and again to our love and friendship. Remember, when you stop and look around, this life is pretty amazing!

I am survived by my two wonderful brothers, Doug (Mary) Sall, and Steve (Lisa) Sall and my beautiful sister Joan Monka and my dear brother in law Jim Nelson. Also surviving me are my children Nathan (Katie) Rikansrud and Leah Rikansrud and my 6 grandchildren Olivia, Ella, Colbin, Tavin, Hudson and Beau. My two beloved sisters, Nicky Nelson and Mary (Bob) Chermela preceded me and are waiting for me. So for now, I love you all!

After a courageous, determined battle with cancer, Sara passed peacefully on Thursday July 6, 2017. Heaven's gates were wide open for our beautiful Angel!
