Steven Radigan Obituary
Steven Radigan

Steven Radigan of Sioux Falls died suddenly on Sunday morning, September 24th, the day after his 68th birthday, of a heart attack. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 29th at 10:30 am at the Heritage Funeral Home in Sioux Falls.

Steven Albers Radigan was born in Vermillion, SD on September 23, 1949 to William Joseph and Mary Suzanne (Susie) Albers Radigan, the fourth of eight sons and eleven children. Growing up, he loved the Missouri River and Armstrongs' horses, and he was a fine pole-vaulter. He graduated from Vermillion High School in 1968. After high school, adventurer that he was, Steve served briefly in the U. S. Army, then lived in a number of states, especially loving Colorado, where his two youngest children were born. In 1994, a single father by then, Steve moved back home to South Dakota with his two young children, whom he raised in Sioux Falls, where he worked as a large- machine repairman for some years until he retired. From the day he was born, Steve could take apart any machine, large or small, car or copier, and fix it. He was also an accomplished carpenter, designer, and gardener. He was a state championship league pool player. He had the grace of enjoying simple pleasures--the flowers he grew, the food he grew and canned and cooked with, the glories of Midwestern seasons of the year, the company he kept and the stories that were told, his animals that he delighted in, the home he impeccably maintained, but whose door was never closed to a short or long visit or to anyone in need. He loved his boat and his family and his friends--and that he was born the same day as Bruce Springsteen! Above all, Steve loved his children.

His beloved children--his daughter Tayler and his son Spenser--were with him always and were with him when he died. He is also survived by his daughter Julie Garcia, and by Matt and Rianna, who grew up in his house. He is loved and survived too by his seven surviving siblings: Suzanne Radigan, Gregg (Diana) Radigan, Dan (Melissa) Radigan, Kelly John Radigan, Laurie (Michael) Kruse, Carol Radigan (Michael Burkes), and James Radigan. He was preceded in death by his three big brothers--Billy, Randy, and Jeff-- whom he missed and has joined again, and by his dear parents Susie and Bill. Steve is also survived by Jill, his best friend of many years, by his aunt Bonnie Albers, by his cousins, nieces and nephews, and by his many other friends in Vermillion, Sioux Falls, and elsewhere who will miss their tall, trim, generous friend with that quick wit and easy grin.

Condolences to his family may be posted online at the Heritage Funeral Home website.
