Wallace D. Patten Obituary
Wallace D. Patten

Wallace D. Patten, 94, died on March 9, 2016.

Wallace was born on July 21, 1921, in Milwaukee, WI, and grew up in Mobridge, SD, with his parents, Hewitt and Hillda (Madsen) Patten.

Wallace graduated with a BA from Yankton College, where he met and fell in love with his future bride, Erma Swanson, of Alcester, SD.

Wallace and Erma were married soon after Wallace's entry into military service. Wallace served in the U.S. Army Air Force, 642nd Bomber Squadron during WWII, in the European Air Offensive. After his military service, Wallace and Erma lived in Vermillion, SD while he attended the USD School of Law, obtained his Juris Doctorate, and his first son James. Sons Richard and Don were added as Wallace worked in the insurance industry and lived in Sioux Falls six plus decades.

Wallace and Erma were proud and active members of the First Congregational Church all their lives where Wallace added his beautiful voice to the hymns.

Wallace loved gardening, woodworking, home maintenance activities, and he was a jack of all trades and master of most.

A family gathering, memorial and interment service will be held at the Woodlawn Cemetery in early May.

Wallace is survived by his three sons and daughters-in-law, 9 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, all who "Love ya little, love ya big, love ya like a little pig."

Please send any memorials to the First Congregational Church, 300 South Minnesota Avenue, Sioux Falls, SD 57104, in Wallace and Erma's name.
