Walter Klein

Walter Klein, 93, of Hartford, passed away Monday, October 12, 2015 at his home.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 AM Thursday, October 15, 2015 at St. George Catholic Church, Hartford. Burial will be in the St. George Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-7:00 PM Wednesday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Dell Rapids.

Walter William Klein was born September 25, 1922 at Dell Rapids to parents William and Gabrielle (Fisher) Klein. He grew up west of Dell Rapids, where he farmed with his parents and attended country school.

Walt married Marian Broyles February 11, 1947 at Hartford. They celebrated 67 years together. They farmed west of Dell Rapids for 2 years before moving to a farm near Hartford, where he farmed until moving into Hartford in 1993. He had Klein Trucking, hauling hogs and cattle with his pickup and trailer. He also worked for Hartford Elevator in the spring after his retirement. He was honored as a Pioneer Livestock Shipper of the year in 1986.

He rode and raised horses all his life and enjoyed horses show, trail rides and wagon train rides with his family. In 2013 Walt and Marian were honored as the Cowboy Ranch Family for the Casey Tibbs South Dakota Center.

He was a member of St. George Catholic Church, Community Saddle Club Riders, Sioux Empire Saddle Club and the Dakota Harness Club.

Grateful for having shared his life are his children, David (Linda) Klein, Fort Scott, KS, Dennis (Cheryl) Klein, Crooks, Steven (Debra) Klein, Sioux Falls, Walter (Lisa) Klein, Magnolia, TX, Terry (Cindy) Klein, Hartford and Pamela Klein Teuber, Rapid City; sixteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren; a sister, Florence Van Vooren, Dell Rapids.

Walt was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Marian on January 10, 2015; daughter, Julie Klein; grandson, Shawn Klein; great-grandson, Bryson Wilking, and a brother, Joe.
