On June 4, 2021 Wendell was reunited with the love of his life, Donna.

Wendell was born in Hudson, South Dakota on December 7, 1926. His parents were John Lyle Marshall and Henrietta (Speelman) Marshall. Wendell had 2 sisters, Arvilla Vipond (deceased) (Curt-deceased) and LaVonne House (Mel-deceased).

Like so many of his generation, his life was shaped by the Depression and World War II. He served as an infantryman in the Philippines. To him, all food was good and not to be wasted. In his last days one of his lunch requests was S.O.S.

Wendell graduated from Hudson High School in 1944 and got his undergraduate degree from Northern State University in Aberdeen and his master's degree from The University of South Dakota in Vermillion.

Wendell's first position was high school principal in Bucyrus, ND where he later became superintendent. He also held the position of superintendent in Harrold, Buffalo and Burke SD. He taught 7th grade history in New Mexico for 3 years before heading to Minnesota to serve as superintendent in Barrett and Hills.

Wendell married Donna Mae Katus on February 15, 1947 in Minneapolis, MN. Donna and Wendell had 7 children: Judy Vogelgesang (deceased), Mark Marshall, Garrison, MN, Gary Marshall (Gwenie), Hawley, MN, Kent Marshall (Colleen), Barrett, MN, Jeff Marshall (Brenda), West Linn, OR, Jane Kirsch (Barry), Riverside, IA and Viki Meier (Jay), Cedar Bluff, IA.

Donna and Wendell had 23 grandchildren and 46 great grandchildren. During retirement they enjoyed time in Iowa, Pacific City, OR, and Indio CA before returning to Oregon for the remainder of their lives. Donna passed away in 2010.

Wendell was a lifelong learner and an unrelenting advocate for public education.

Wendell's life will be celebrated in a private family ceremony at a later date.
